Cookies

Dead drop uses just one cookie, which is necessary for the site to function. This is known as a session cookie , and it's just a random unique identifier that gets assigned when you start using the site.

The cookie enables the site to know that when you use the site in your browser, it's your browser doing it and not someone else who's using the site at the same time. It contains no personal information, and is not used for advertising, tracking or anything else. When you stop using the site, the identifier expires. The next time you use the site a fresh random identifier is generated, which is unrelated to the previous one.

Consent

When you visit Dead Drop for the first time, we will ask for your consent to store the cookie. When you consent, we store the date and time in your browser. This is stored only in your browser on your computer, it is never transmitted to Dead Drop. (This means if you start using a different browser, or if you use several computers, we will ask for your consent on each one.)

Storing it this way means we can check whether you've already consented to the cookie, so we don't have to nag you every time you visit. And we record the date and time so that, if we update the cookie policy, we know to obtain consent again if you last consented before the update.
